Kumeu River’s 2014 Harvest

Kumeu River in New Zealand have just started harvesting fruit from their vineyards which have supplied members with exquisite chardonnay for many years.

With harvest in full swing, and perfect weather, here are some pictures taken just a few days ago (the red grapes are pinot noir).

  1. I visited Kumeu River before Christmas. It is always a pleasure to drink wine when one has walked the terroir and met the people making a wine.

    Those grapes look in wonderful condition – which is exactly what you would expect from Michael Brajkovich, a brilliant, thoughtful winemaker.

    Iain Awty is guilty of oversimplification. Yes, excellent grapes are essential, harvested at the right time. However the skill of the winemaker is indispensible in completing the process in producing a great wine. Surely it is a partnership. Look at how often a winemaker like Ignacio Recabarren raises a wine to a significantly higher standard by his expertise
