Tim Sykes Sebastian Payne MW
Tim Sykes joined The Wine Society as Head of Buying in March 2012. Full profile. Sebastian Payne MW joined The Society in 1973 and served as chief buyer from 1985–2012. He buys The Society’s Italian, German, Greek, Austrian and Eastern European wines. Full profile.
Joanna Locke MW Marcel Orford-Williams
Joanna Locke MW joined The Society in 2004. Her buying responsibilities include Bordeaux, Loire, South Africa and Portugal. Full profile. Marcel Orford-Williams joined in 1986. He buys The Society’s Rhône, Alsace, Beaujolais and southern French wines, and is also responsible for Luxembourg, Champagne and sparkling wines. Full profile.
Pierre Mansour Toby Morrhall
Pierre Mansour became a buyer in 2003, after leading the Tastings team for three years. He is responsible for Australia, New Zealand, North America, Lebanon and Spain (excluding sherry). Mark Buckenham Janet Wynne Evans
Mark Buckenham joined The Society in 1973. He buys port, Madeira, beer, liqueurs and spirits, along with The Society’s English wines. He also sources accessories for sideboard and cellar, and oversees Quality Assurance. Full profile. As well as writing our much-loved Food for Thought and Flavour of The Month columns, Janet Wynne Evans is The Society’s specialist wine manager. Full profile.

AROUND THE SOCIETY

Martin Brown Joanna Goodman
Martin Brown joined as digital copywriter in 2011 and looks after The Society’s online communications, including this blog. Martin’s background is in journalism and his current role allows him to combine his passions for both wine and writing. News editor Joanna Goodman joined in 1990 and, apart from a year spent working in Australia and travelling, has been a member of the Marketing team ever since. Joanna looks after the printed SocietyNews and the Wine World & News pages on the website. She is also involved in the design of Wine Society labels.
Ewan Murray Paul Trelford
A Damascene moment with Amarone di Valpolicella kindled Ewan Murray’s love of wine and he’s been an Italian fan ever since. Ewan joined The Society in 2004, and after nine years heading the Tastings & Events team is now The Society’s PR manager. Paul Trelford has more than 20 years’ experience in the wine trade (both retail and online) and has led The Society’s Copy team since 2006.
Gareth Park Louisa Peskett
Gareth Park joined in 2005 as part of the merchandising team, going on to specialise in fine wine. One wedding and two children later he became campaign manager and is now responsible for the marketing of Bordeaux, Beaujolais, Alsace, Italy, Spain, Lebanon, South Africa and South America. He is a self-confessed Musar nut. Louisa Peskett joined The Society in 2002 and is responsible for planning, forecasting and pricing all products and campaigns, as well as product analysis. In 2010 she also took over the buying of food products for The Society’s gift range.
Nicky Glennon Emma Howat
Nicky Glennon joined The Wine Society in 2010 as head of digital marketing. She is responsible for content updates and longer-term developments to The Society’s digital channels, including our website and mobile apps. Tastings and events co-ordinator since 2010, Emma Howat is involved in putting together and hosting The Society’s tastings, workshops and dinners.
Stephanie Searle Shaun Kiernan
Stephanie Searle travels the country far and wide as a member of the Tastings & Events team. Having joined The Society in 2001, her favourite wine regions are the Rhône, New Zealand and Burgundy, but she will drink Champagne at any time! Fine wine manager Shaun Kiernan joined The Society in 1981. He spent time in Member Services, Accounts and ran the Showroom for four years before joining the Marketing team. Shaun now looks after everything fine-wine related, including opening offers.
