More German, though the language is English labels, there does seem to be an endless supply of this type over there, and one or two cannot be shown at all, tease tease.
Do labels sell wine?
Have seen these before and even used on to ârelabelâ wines for a punk themed fancy dress party
but for retailâŚwould they pass the ASA / Portman guidelines on alcohol advertising in the UK?
Goats do Roam springs to mind as quite an effective and witty means of doing this whilst also conveying a message about the style of wineâŚto those that get it!
And Waitrose used to do a grenache-based blend, cheekily called Chat-en-Oeuf, with a label depicting both.
Iâm a sucker for a quirky label! Goats do roam is on of my favourites!
I recently tried this Flurie I probably wouldnât have chosen it if the label didnât catch my eye which would be a shame because it was delicious!

I also particularly like the labels of some young punks, theyâre very cool⌠the wine is generally very good to!
Try selling a first growth without its name on the label (access to criticsâ TNs allowed), and see how well it sells and for how much. Even if you offer proof that the wine is actually a first griowth of a particular chateau and vintage, you would not get Its âfull priceâ.
While I agree whatâs inside SHOULD be whatâs important, in practice there are many other factors involved.
Also I should add that I do nevertheless see your point, I think. But I would say labels are important for all wines - albeit in different ways.
And although it almost certainly doesnât need it Mouton-Rothschild makes a big thing of its admittedly great artistic labels.
And finally just to prove that bad taste labels are not the sole preserve of the German wine industry, we have this one from the USA.
And this not from Germany but their former alliesâŚ
and for more in a similar veinâŚ

Enough alreadyâŚ
Thatâs where the âtraditionâ and âhistoryâ behind the wine plays an important role. A first growth is able to charge its price also because of these 2 factors.
I always enjoy the Chronic labels, unfortunately slightly more then the wines which I find generally a bit too much. So I suppose the labels did get me to try, but not to buy more.

Iâm also a fan of the Bonny Doon labels, and in this case I also buy them whenever the opportunity arises.
Oh dear! what a great spread of ugliness!
I hope FĂźhrerwein is vegetarian- in accordance with the great leaderâs gastronomic preferences!
